What is a text comparison tool?
A text comparison tool shows differences between two versions of content. It can help when reviewing edits, checking a translation, comparing a draft with a final version or locating changes.
The RekeTools text comparison tool runs in the browser and shows added, removed and unchanged lines.
How to compare two texts online
- Paste the first version into A.
- Paste the second version into B.
- Click “Compare Texts”.
- Review the summary and highlighted differences.
When is it useful?
Documents
It can help locate changes between versions. Legal documents should still be reviewed in full context and with professional advice when appropriate.
Academic work
Comparing an earlier draft with a corrected version makes it easier to see which sections changed.
Web content
When updating a page, comparing versions can help verify what was added or removed.
Limitations
A line-based comparison does not understand meaning. If large blocks are rearranged, it may report many changes even when the content is similar. Very large documents can also depend on browser performance.
